FrSky have a new generation 8 Channel receiver specific for glider use. With built in variometer sensor, this will give you telemetry data like altitude and vertical speed. The G-RX8 supports the redundancy function as well, this means you can add on another receiver to create a backup for added security. It also supports SBUS and PWM mode, and you can switch between the two very easily.

Dimension: 55.26x17x8mm
Weight: 5.8g
Number of Channels: Up to 16 CH
Operating Voltage Range: 4.0 -10V
Operating Current: 100mA@5V
Operating Range: Full range
Firmware Upgradable
Compatibility: D16 mode

Integrate with high precision variometer sensor
Support redundancy function
Support telemetry data transmission
Switchable SBUS/PWM mode (1~8CH from PWM outputs and 1~16CH from SBUS output)

All files relating to the G-RX8 Receiver including manuals and firmware updates can be found here:

cannot get the vario tones out of this rx or the GR8 - getting data, as I can get altitude readings but the variometer section in the telemetry menu is void.

Latest firmware all round, tx and rx. Everything else seems to be fine, just cannot get my depressing sink tones... 🙂

Any thoughts welcome.

You need to turn the vario on in the Special function section, I think.

thanks Barry, turns out I had to go into the sensor detection menu and select the altitude value, activated the vario there.

Still nothing showing in the vario section of devices though. Odd. Vario tones now so happy 🙂
